Teaching Philosophy Statement

A solid, reliable vocal technique is the gateway for artistic expression. It provides free vocal production throughout the range of a singer’s voice with easy shifting through the registers. Good technique reveals the unique beauty of each singers’ voice while providing the knowledge and tools which allow a singer to perform to the best of his or her ability, even under adverse conditions. Singers must know how to use their voices with confidence, they must know what to engage and what to release in order to make the most expressive sound. Most importantly, a singer must feel free when singing—free of pain, free of uncomfortable tension, and free of anxiety about what may or may not come out. When singers have this reliable technical foundation, then their artistry is able to fully take wing.
